Managing Players
Learn the different ways to add and manage players in your tournaments, from automatic registration to bulk imports.
Player Management Overview
MashHarder offers multiple ways to populate your tournaments with players. Each method has its own use case and benefits, giving you flexibility in how you run your events.
Method 1: Player Self-Registration (Recommended)
The standard and recommended method for MashHarder tournaments. Players join using their own MashHarder accounts.
How It Works
- Share Tournament Link: Players visit your tournament page via your shared link
- Login Required: Players must have a MashHarder account and be logged in
- One-Click Join: Players click the "Join Tournament" button
- Automatic Registration: Player profile data is automatically imported
✅ Benefits
- Verified player identities with authentic profiles
- Players can manage their own registration status
- Automatic profile pictures and display names
- Players receive notifications about tournament updates
- Reduced administrative work for hosts
Method 2: Quick Add Player
Manually add individual players by name. Perfect for on-the-spot registrations or last-minute entries.
When to Use Quick Add
- Walk-in Registrations: Players showing up at local events without pre-registration
- Guest Players: Adding participants who don't have MashHarder accounts
- Last-Minute Entries: Quick additions right before tournament starts
- Testing: Adding placeholder players to test your tournament setup
How to Quick Add:
- Navigate to your tournament's player management page
- Click the "Quick Add Player" button
- Enter the player's name (required)
- Optionally add additional details (character, tag, etc.)
- Click "Add Player" to confirm
Method 3: Bulk Add Players
Import multiple players at once using a list or spreadsheet. Ideal for large tournaments or when migrating from another platform.
Bulk Add Use Cases
- Large Tournaments: Adding 20+ players at once saves significant time
- Pre-Registered Lists: Import players from external registration systems
- Invitational Events: Add a curated list of invited participants
- Seeded Tournaments: Import players with pre-determined seeding order
Bulk Add Format:
Enter one player name per line:
Player One
Player Two
Player Three
Player Four
Player FiveHow to Bulk Add:
- Go to your tournament's player management page
- Click the "Bulk Add Players" button
- Paste your list of player names (one per line)
- Review the preview of players to be added
- Click "Add All Players" to confirm
Editing Player Details
Understanding what you can and cannot edit helps you manage your tournament roster effectively.
✅ Editable (Quick/Bulk Added)
Players added manually can have all details edited:
- Player name
- Display name/tag
- Character selection
- Seeding position
- Notes and custom fields
- Remove from tournament
🔒 Not Editable (Joined Players)
Players who joined with accounts have protected profiles:
- Username (account-linked)
- Display name (from profile)
- Profile picture (from account)
- Player bio and social links
You can still assign seeding and remove them from the tournament.
Why This Matters
This distinction protects player identity and prevents impersonation. Players who join with their MashHarder accounts maintain control over their profile information, ensuring authentic representation across all tournaments.
Best Practices
Encourage Self-Registration
Promote tournament links early and encourage players to join with their accounts. This reduces your workload and provides a better experience.
Use Quick Add Sparingly
Reserve quick add for walk-ins and last-minute changes. Over-relying on manual entry defeats the purpose of the automated system.
Bulk Add for Large Events
If you have a pre-existing list from external registration, use bulk add to save time. Players can claim their entries later if desired.
